EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a therapeutic approach designed to help you process and heal from distressing memories or experiences. This treatment helps to reduce nervous system activation in response to triggering thoughts and events, and establish new ways of responding to recurring stressors.

During an EMDR session, we'll work together to identify specific traumatic memories or negative beliefs that are causing you difficulty. Then, using a technique that involves guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, we'll help your brain reprocess these memories in a way that reduces their emotional impact. This process can help alleviate symptoms associated with trauma, such as anxiety, flashbacks, or negative self-perceptions. Prior to the EMDR treatment, we'll spend a few sessions building coping skills to establish a sense of safety, identifying memories or issues to target, and ensuring that you're well-prepared for the core work of EMDR therapy.

Bruno Trindade, LCSW

Bruno offers Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy in-person in Northampton, MA or by video Telehealth to clients in NY and MA.

Bruno focuses on helping people work through major life transitions including struggles with depression and anxiety. He works collaboratively and finds that re-framing their struggles as only one part of their identity helps to develop new ways of engaging and relating to the many aspects of oneself. This shift opens a space for compassion, healing, and over time a more integrated sense of self.

Bruno brings an eclectic approach to therapy to determine what tools work best for each individual, always grounded in a deeply relational viewpoint. He applies a mixture of somatic elements including mindfulness, visualization, Gestalt therapy, psychodynamics, and Internal Family Systems. Bruno’s perspective is also informed by his practice and teaching of Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art. His experience utilizing his mind and body to move intentionally through challenging maneuvers, always with awareness of the other participants, influences his embodied-relational therapy practice. Bruno holds a Master’s in Social Work from Smith College, and has additional degrees in Comparative Religion and Computer Science.

Licensed in both Massachusetts (LCSW) and New York (LMSW).
